Third Annual Green Village Tour

Green Village Tour
North Charleston’s Sustainability Institute is holding the Green Village Tour on Earth Day (April 18th). The 8am 5K walk / 8K run will be held in North Charleston’s Park Circle and will be followed at 11am by the Charleston Earth Day Celebration.

The Green Village Tour is in it’s third year in 2009 and is the Institute’s most enjoyable community-oriented annual event. The course winds through the streets of North Charleston, featuring the sustainable development projects of the past, present and future.

More than a fundraiser, the GVT helps to give North Charleston a local idenity of health, community and environment. The only race of its kind in North Charleston, the GVT is also environmentally friendly, organized to reduce impact on our natural resources and to minimize waste commonly generated with such a large event.

In 2008, the Green Village Tour was quoted as being a race ‘from which other races should be modeled’ by the Post and Courier. The race received national recognition on the Runner’s World website as well as in a New England runners journal called The Green Athlete.

The Institute expects the race to grow substantially in 2009 and is excited to take on unique and sustainable initiatives to push the boundary even further.
