The North Charleston Recreation Department sponsoring the 8th Annual “Tribute to Our American Veterans”

On Wednesday, November 11 at the beautiful Riverfront Park in North Charleston, site of the Naval Base Memorial. This special event will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Please join Mayor Summey, in a special ceremony in which all attending veterans will receive a special coin for their dedication and service to our great country.
This annual event is open to American Veterans of all wars. Over 400 American Veterans were honored last year. This year’s event will prove to be another great tribute to our honored guests.
Our guest speaker will be Retired Colonel Robert J. Mastrion, USMC. Colonel Mastrion entered the Marine Corps in 1955. He completed his training at Parris Island. He served during the Suez Crisis in 1956, Lebanon 1958, Colonel Mastrion was commissioned in 1961. He served during the Cuban Crisis 1961, Vietnam 1963-1964, Dominican Republic 1965, Vietnam 1966-1968, Arab-Israel Crisis 1973, Korea 1975-1976, 1985-1986 and the First Gulf War 1991-1992. Colonel Mastrion retired from the USMC in 1992. We are very honored that he has accepted our invitation to be our very special guest speaker this year.
All veterans are urged to take part in this most memorable ceremony that has been tagged by many as the “best in the state”. North Charleston takes tremendous pride in having the opportunity to acknowledge the priceless, self-sacrificing acts of courage demonstrated by our American Veterans.
