Oak Terrace Preserve Couple Wins Yard of the Month
Joan Brasier and Paul Wilczynski have done a lot of work in their yard since they moved to OTP in August. With a vision of making a garden space that thrives without a lot of human attention, their hard work is paying off. The Cameron Terrace / Oak Park Civic Club recently honored their efforts with Yard of the Month.
In Joan’s own words, they’ve “expanded beds, created a border bed on the property line, installed two rain barrels with rain chains, planted numerous native shrubs, perennial flowers and bulbs, started a rock garden, had an arbor built for vines, laid a path from the driveway to the back door and installed solar lighting along it. We are excited to see how all of the changes look starting in the Spring when things green up and begin to bloom.
Future plans include an informal patio under the arbor with an informal path through the bed, a rock bed by the driveway with large potted plants, adding additional native perennial flowers and shrubs, expanding the rock garden etc. Eventually we hope to eliminate the grass entirely at least in the back garden.”
Congratulations to Paul and Joan!
