In case of rain or inclement weather, event will be held at the bus shed at the Charleston Visitors Center on Meeting Street.
Mayor R. Keith Summey to join local leaders in Tuesday’s news conference for the unveiling of a regional “stimulus plan” to boost the Lowcountry economy in a recession.
North Charleston based non-profit Lowcountry Local First will announce the launching of its 10% Shift Campaign, designed to boost the local economy by increasing traffic in regional independent businesses.
More than 100 local business leaders are expected to join Mayor Keith Summey, Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Mt. Pleasant Town Councilman Joseph Bustos, Jr., and Charleston County Council Member Joseph McKeown.
The 10% Shift is based on a successful effort in New England, and is part of a global effort to increase interest in local business and agriculture for long-term sustainable economies. A recent study in Grand Rapids, Michigan found that a comparable effort would pump $160 million and new jobs into the regional economy.
Powerhouse Demolition
The Powerhouse exterior demolition project at The Navy Yard is moving right along. Testa, the contractor working for The City of North Charleston, removed one of the three large coal silos yesterday. Swing by today and you may catch a view of the other two silos coming down. This project will take care of removing all of the old exterior power generation equipment; the City plans to reuse the building for a public use in the future.
